Cookies and tracking technologies
In brief. This site uses technical cookies necessary to run it and, to help cover costs, Google advertising cookies: those load only if you accept them in the banner shown on your first visit, and you can change your mind at any time (§6). Statistics remain cookieless.
1. Technical cookies
They let you use the site and require no consent (Art. 122 of the Italian Privacy Code). These are all of them:
| Name | What it does | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|
sessionid | Keeps you signed in after login | Until the session expires |
csrftoken | Anti-fraud protection for forms (CSRF) | 1 year |
django_language | Remembers whether you browse in Italian or English | 1 year |
FCCDCF, FCOEC | They remember the choice you make in the advertising banner, so we do not ask again on every page. Set by the Google component that handles consent: they are not used for profiling and carry no ads | Up to 13 months |
They are all first-party cookies: set by serenlibrita.com, not by a third party.
2. Statistics (Matomo) — without cookies
We use Matomo, hosted on our own servers, in cookieless mode with IP anonymisation: no identifier is stored on or read from your device, so no consent is required. We honour the browser's “Do Not Track” signal and we do not track bots. The data is aggregated and not shared with third parties.
3. What stays on your device besides cookies
Two things, both technical and neither used for profiling:
- The chat sound preference, saved in the browser's local storage (localStorage): it remembers whether you muted the message alert sound. It is a single on/off value, it identifies no one and it never leaves your browser. Clearing the site data removes it.
- The push notification subscription, if you enable it: the browser registers a service worker and generates a unique delivery address. It is necessary for the feature you asked for; you revoke it from the site or from your browser settings. How it works and who receives it is explained in the Privacy Policy, §4.
4. Maps (OpenStreetMap)
When you open a map, your browser downloads tile images from OpenStreetMap's servers. They are plain images: they do not set cookies on your device. OpenStreetMap does however receive your IP address in order to serve them (see the Privacy Policy).
5. Security and network (Cloudflare)
The site is served through Cloudflare, which filters malicious traffic. In some circumstances — for instance an anti-bot check — Cloudflare may set a technical security cookie of its own: it serves defensive purposes only, it is not used for profiling and it does not feed advertising.
6. Advertising (Google AdSense) — only with your consent
To help cover the costs of the project the site hosts Google AdSense ads. Unlike everything else described here, these are third-party profiling cookies: they select and measure the ads, and Google may combine them with data it already holds about you.
For that reason:
- a banner appears on your first visit, and until you choose, no advertising cookie is written to your device and no personalised ad is shown to you. The banner is served by the same Google component that handles the ads, so that component does load in order to ask you: but it waits, and without your consent it does not track;
- you can refuse, and the site works exactly the same — simply without personalised ads;
- you can change your mind at any time by reopening the banner from the link in the page footer, or from Google's ad settings;
- ads never appear on legal pages (including this one) or in the members' area: no advertising above your conversations, your loans or your data.
Google acts here as an independent controller for the advertising processing: its rules are in its privacy notice for partner sites. The processing involves a transfer of data to the United States: see the Privacy Policy, §8.
7. How to manage cookies and local storage
You can block or delete cookies and clear local storage from your browser settings, and turn on the “Do Not Track” signal. Disabling technical cookies may however prevent the site from working properly (signing in, for example).
