Discover: book matches

A friend called it "Tinder for books". The whole difference is this: you vote on a book, never on a person. Whoever you meet has read what you have read.

One book at a time

Discover is in the profile menu and at the top of the Shelf (on a computer also in the top bar).

In Discover a cover appears. If you have read it and would gladly talk about it, drag it right or press I'd talk about it. If it means nothing to you, left: Pass. If you have not read it but would look for it, there is I'd like it. None of these choices is public: there is no page where others see what you voted.

If a book you have read does not show up, search for it by title or author; if it is not there, search by ISBN and we add it to the catalogue, even if nobody has a copy to lend.

When a match is born

There are two ways.

  • The chat. You and another person said "I'd talk about it" on at least three of the same books. It works across all of Serenlibrità, from any city: you do not need to live nearby to talk about a book. New matches arrive once a day, three at most: it is not a slot machine.
  • The swap. You would like a book owned by someone within your radius, and they would like one of yours. Here distance matters, because books change hands in person. The match is born right away, or, if the copy arrives later, at the next daily round (within a day).

You get a notification and find everything under Your matches, in the profile menu.

What the other person sees

At first only your name, your literary character and the books you have in common. Your bio and the rest of your profile appear once both of you have written at least one message: the first message is how you say "I'm in". In a chat match, where you live never shows, not even the city. In a swap the usual lending rule applies: distance in bands, never an address.

Close, block, report

From the conversation menu you can close it (the chat stays readable but nobody can write anymore), block the person (the conversation closes and you will not be matched again) and report to the moderators a message, with the button next to it, or the whole conversation, from the menu. As with loans, reports are read by a person.

What about lending?

Discover does not replace a loan request: if you see "Available near you", tap the cover to open the book page and ask for it as usual. A swap born from a match is recorded the same way, from the book page, so the handover stays tracked.
